Everyone has a story…

Yarne began with a deep affection for the stories people carry through their lives.

Not only the dramatic ones but also the small moments that stay with us.

These moments often hold more meaning than we realise. They just need a little time and attention to surface.

Yarne is a bit like a field guide for anyone who wants to start noticing.

Where the idea began

I’m Naomi. I’ve been a charity writer and storyteller for more than fifteen years, but really I’ve been listening to people’s stories for as long as I can remember.

When I was twelve, I interviewed an elderly man called George for a school history project. He ended up telling me about the time he “borrowed” a plane while working as a mechanic during the war.

Years later, I sat cradling my newborn while my Auntie Mollie told stories about her life in a house that hadn’t changed since the 1950s.

Moments like that stayed with me.

Again and again I found myself drawn to the rich tapestries of so-called ordinary lives.

Why ‘Yarne?’

The name Yarne comes from the phrase “spinning a yarn” — the act of sharing stories with others.

Stories rarely arrive neatly packaged. They unfold slowly, gathering texture and meaning along the way.

Yarne is about following the thread of those stories.

Not just writing them down, but noticing them as life happens.

Four people, including a smiling elderly woman sitting on a garden bench and two young children with their mother, surrounded by green foliage and purple flowers.
